Important Cities To Visit Kauai is the least populated island in Hawaii so the towns are small. Kapa’a is the largest town with a population of 10,700. However, you shouldn’t judge a town by its size. Each town in Kauai has an interesting story to tell, and you get to be a part of it.

Wailua Town
Known for the Wailua River which meanders its way through the town, Wailua doesn't have much more to offer than a sprinkling of hotels, restaurants and shops. Most notably, it is the jumping off point for activities on the Waimea such as kayaking and, when it is open, boat tours to Fern Grotto.
Kapaa Town
This east Kauai town is just north Lihue and home to about 10,000 people. Kapa'a is a very touristy area with plenty of hotels, condos, restaurants and shops to entertain. Above the tops of Kapaa's graceful coconut trees, sleeps the giant. "Sleeping Giant" is just another name for an interesting formation on the Nounou Mountain range which is visible from nearly all areas of Kapa'a.
Hanapepe Town
Hanapepe is located on Kauai’s South Shore west of Koloa, and boasts great shopping. The streets are lined with galleries, stores, and restaurants with something to please the most discriminating shoppers.
